I was just told by the staff at MB that if I want to use the Metatrader charts, I have to open a new account, put new money into it. Why on earth? What I"d like to be able to do is to use the Metatrader charts to see what the price will likely do, then place my trade through the Navigator, which is the platform I'm familiar with. This would be a major help to MB traders, IMHO.

You do need to open a separate MetaTrader account to get access to MetaTrader live quotes and charts. However, you do not need to fund the account to login and view the charts.
