Facilitate free generation of Schedule-D reports (that take care of wash-sales as well) for tax filing purpose. This is what TD Ameritrade provides. For detailed requirements, have a look at TDA's implementation. Currently Penson has a Profit/Loss link but this is clunky and could be improved upon.

Your post is confusing as I've been using GainsKeeper with MB Trading (Penson) for five years now with no problem. Every morning I import the trades I made with MB Trading the previous day into my GainsKeeper account. Then at tax time each year I click a couple of GK buttons and it spits out my Schedule D. GainsKeeper is not free with MB Trading trade imports, but they don't charge a penny extra for the Schedule D. Price is very resonable and for average frequency traders each trade imported into GK from MB Trading is about 18 cents, much lower for very high frequency traders. FWIW.
